Sex trafficking is arguably the most evil practice in the history of mankind. Targeting girls at younger and younger ages, commercial sexual exploitation is happening all over the world, and netting the perpetrators billions of dollars per year.

Traffickers employ a variety of methods to develop control over victims, including psychological manipulation, deceit, fear, threats, brutal rape, physical captivity, torture, degradation, and violence. The demographics of those who are purchasing sex span all races and ethnicities, from boys as young as teenagers to men in their 70s, and often even men who are married with children of their own. They include business owners, lawyers, doctors, politicians, police officers, career criminals, and school teachers. Victims also come from every race, nationality, and background, but the risk of exploitation is exponentially higher for those who have suffered prior abuse, come from broken homes, are racial minorities, and suffer difficult socio-economic conditions.

In short, none of our communities are immune, and we all must be a part of the solution. At Out of Darkness, we hope to join courageous others in the fight by providing a round-the-clock response to victims of trafficking in Atlanta that have an opportunity to cry out for help. And for those who will never have the opportunity to cry out for help, we will be scouring the internet to search out online trafficking networks and provide critical information to the law enforcement community.
